This Principal Structural Engineer has a successful background in structure designs for electro-mechanical systems and will drive the ideation, analysis, design and development of structural systems and assemblies that must withstand application environments. It requires a subject matter expert in developing analytical models and running analysis design trades for all structural dynamic conditions to be seen by the system over its lifetime.
Responsibilities: · Developing the tools and analysis approaches to drive detailed trades on system structural design · Performing multiple analysis iterations to support various layout and configuration trades to optimize for overall system design · Identifying and incorporating applicable system level parameters in the requirements definition and analysis inputs · Identifying applicable margins · Defining test conditions and test methods, specifying test levels and durations for verification of structural margins. Defining instrumentation for test setup, analyzing responses and correlating with analysis/predictions · Compiling and documenting analysis and test results for design reviews · Interfacing with multiple other engineering disciplines throughout development iterations, design, manufacturing, test, and volume production
· BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Material Sciences, or equivalent experience · 10+ years of experience in the design and analysis of complex structural designs · 10+ years of experience in structural testing and validation · Experience in structural dynamics · Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with commercial tools such as ANSYS, Nastran, FEMAP or Abaqus
· Masters or PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or aerospace engineering, or related field · Understanding of stiffness/strength analysis, material selection trades, composite materials analysis, stability analysis · Previous technical leadership in complex structures from initial concept trades to build, test and qualification, and successful production deployment at volume · Programming skills in Python/Matlab/C/C++ · Experienced with volume manufacture of metallic and/or composite structural components · Strong CAD experience – Siemens NX (or equivalent)
