  • Job Description

    As a Sr. Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) Engineer, you will be the technical conscience and SME for all manufacturing-related problems. You will be responsible for defining and implementing excellent DfX practices for our product. You will be the main interface between the Hardware and Product Design Engineering teams, our Product Operations teams within Lab126, and our CM partners. In this role, you will:
    • Work with the Design Engineering teams to identify and escalate manufacturing challenges by enforcing DFM (Manufacturing), DFA (Assembly) and DFS (Serviceability) principles

    • Investigate and introduce new manufacturing technology and methodologies to enhance product quality and production efficiencies

    • Develop manufacturing processes at our CM, including defining fixture requirements, critical dimensions on parts and critical requirements in the assembly process

    • Drive all factory-related operational issues related to subassembly and final assembly processes during pre-production builds; ensure effective closure of manufacturing-related issues to enable the operational success of launching new products

    • Identify and develop assembly jigs and fixtures for new products

    • Work within the Product Operations, Hardware and Product Design Engineering departments to implement and optimize manufacturing first pass yields from prototype through product ramp

    • Bridge the gap from our CM to Lab126 by supporting development builds and mass production

    • Support cost reduction and sustaining activities

    Basic Qualifications

    • BS in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or in a related technical field
    • 7+ years of experience in an engineering field
    • Experience in mechanical assembly and inspection processes such as Geometric Design and Tolerance (GD&T) and OMM, and other inspection processes
    • Experience with process characterization and validation using tools such as GR&R, Cp/Cpk, and Design of Experiments techniques.
    • Experience with design for manufacturability, design for automation, and creating process documentation from scratch
    • Experience with assembly jig and fixture design
    • Experience working with International OEM Partners



    Preferred Qualifications


    • Master's or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
    • Ability to work independently and ensure timely and accurate communication between the Lab126 and our OEM partners
    • Good understanding of manufacturing strategy and DfX best practices
    • Experience in Mechanical and Thermal FEA
    • Knowledge on ProE/UG solid modeling
    • Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; capable of interfacing at all levels of a business from equipment operators to platform VP
