    The Alexa Kitchen Knowledge team focuses on expanding Alexa’s understanding of kitchen-related items on a global scale. We take on the unique challenge of understanding the nuances of how Alexa enabled devices can answer customers’ questions in different cultures and locations.     The Role

    As the Manager for Kitchen Knowledge, you will be responsible for driving engagement and success metric goals. You will lead a team of knowledge and software engineers in extending Alexa's ability to understand and answer questions semantic understanding and other natural language processing techniques by making point fixes and building scalable solutions to larger issues. A successful candidate will have not only an established background in leading best in class development teams focused on knowledge tools and infrastructure, but also a strong analytics mindset and a passion to set, track and exceed goals.

    Key Responsibilities:
    · Responsible for setting the yearly goals for the team.
    · Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
    · Manage the day-to-day activities of the knowledge + engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
    · Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class team
    · Work closely with the engineers and other teams to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.

    Basic Qualifications

    · Experience managing, mentoring and developing multi-disciplinary teams
    · Full life cycle software development experience
    · Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
    · Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong problem solving skills
    • Experience with SLU (Spoken Language Understanding) systems
    • Familiarity with knowledge and ontology representation standards and systems (e.g., OWL, RDF), query languages (e.g., SPARQL) and/or ETL frameworks (e.g., Kettle), and large datasets
    • Excellent verbal and written English language skills
    • Professional proficiency in a non-English language
