The Role: We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply cutting edge advances to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers’ experiences in ways we can’t even imagine yet. As Senior Product Design Shop and Metrology Lead you will be responsible for supporting prototype fabrication, assembly and metrology activities supporting Design Engineering. Your will create a one-stop resource to deliver our prototyping needs by balancing in-house capabilities with managing third party outsourcing.

This role is ideally suited for a Lab Manager/Sr. Technician wanting to take on a leadership role. You should have hands on knowledge of different lab management processes including required electrical, mechanical and environmental equipment, inventory management and the necessary infrastructure required to support engineering teams. In addition to hands-on fabrication your responsibilities will include keeping the shop and all equipment in it in good working condition supplied with necessary materials, managing the consumables supply and waste disposal, day to day maintenance of the prototyping equipment, managing our outside suppliers for service of the equipment when required, and making strategic recommendations for new equipment as part of our yearly cap-ex planning.

As the Product Design Shop Lead you will be responsible for controlling access permissions, confirming safety training requirements are met, and assuring everyone uses the shop correctly and leaves it in the condition in which they entered, and most importantly that everyone is operating in a safe, clean, and organized environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience working in a multi-project, multi-deadline environment
  • 3+ years shop management experience
  • 5+ years of experience in prototype fabrication
  • Experience organizing, procuring and maintaining adequate stock of critical components for rapid prototyping

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leading teams, or managing direct reports
  • Experience in running 3D printers, such as Objets, Connex, Dimension, or Carbon
  • Experience in using MasterCAM (or equivalent) on a 3, 4, or 5 axis milling machine
  • Experience in setting up lab (e.g. water plumbing, cooling, electrical work) to support equipment needs
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Design, Engineering, or Fabrication/Model Making/Art
  • CAD experience with Creo or SolidWorks
