The Amazon Devices team designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics, including the best-selling Kindle family of products. We have also produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Dash, and Amazon Echo.

The Role:

We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply cutting-edge advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers’ experiences in ways we can’t even imagine yet. We are looking for an intrepid problem-solver to dive into an ambiguous problem space and design and deliver innovative software solutions, and to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including Amazon Robotics, to put the concepts you develop into production.

As a founding member of the team, you will work alongside product management, research, design, and engineering (software/hardware) to define and build the essential lovable product. As Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of engineers to architect, design, and develop cutting edge technologies and mobile application development. This leader will own applications and services and will work with senior engineers and other leaders to solve difficult technical problems.

The ideal candidate will have an established background developing consumer applications, service architectures, and building best-of-class engineering teams. This person must also be a strong leader who can drive consensus across cross-functional business and software development teams and be an excellent communicator who can articulate technical design tradeoffs with senior technical leaders.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience building and managing software development teams that design and deliver large distributed systems
  • 3+ years of experience in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, Objective-C
  • Experience performing fundamental CS tasks including algorithms, runtime analysis, OO design, code quality.
  • 2+ years of experience with mobile development (iOS/Android)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
