Since then, we have produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

As a Sr. Manager of the Technical Operations organization, you will lead a diverse team of Technical Operations Engineers that partner with engineering, operations and manufacturing teams to usher new products into manufacturing environments and support them through the production lifecycle. You will leverage your deep and broad engineering domain expertise to provide technical leadership for the Technical Operations Engineering team, and be accountable for their results. You will train your teams to identify problems well before they occur, and avoid them.

The Role:
You will hire, develop and manage mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, optical, integration, and test engineering teams that influence designs, architect manufacturing solutions, and solve difficult manufacturing-related problems. Activities include:
  • Define staffing requirements and team member technical skills needed for the program.
  • Recruit, hire, develop and manage the Technical Operations team to maintain a deep level of manufacturing domain expertise in the following areas:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Power Engineering
  • Optical Engineering
  • Test Engineering
  • Automation Engineering
  • Material Science
  • Identify proficiency gaps in the team and close them through training, additional hiring or out-sourcing methods.
  • Work closely with the management of other program teams to ensure good alignment with Product Operations tenets and goals (roles and responsibilities, DfX approach, supply chain design, staffing, failure management, etc.).
  • As required, lead the investigation and adoption of new manufacturing technologies and processes.
  • Recommend and manage CAPEX budgets.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or science field
  • 10+ years combined experience in hardware product design, test and /or manufacturing
  • Experience in hardware production process development, qualification, measurement, data gathering and analysis
  • Experience in design and production for consumer electronics industry, including at least five years experience working with Asian suppliers
  • Five years experience in roles requiring frequent communications with executive teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years hardware product development experience in one or more of the following engineering domains:
  • Mechanical Engineering (including product design, material selection, thermal, FEA, EMC, coatings / finishes, manufacturing methods)
  • Structural Engineering (including FEA, plastics, sheet metal, die casting, CNC, adhesives, laser welding, additive manufacturing)
  • Electro-Mechanical Engineering (including mechanisms, DC motors, servos, VCMs)
  • Electrical Engineering (including digital, audio, mixed signal, RF design, ASIC / FPGA applications)
  • Power Engineering (including batteries, ESCs, power distribution, EMC)
  • Optical Engineering (including optics / camera design and manufacturing)
  • Test Engineering (including test strategy, test plans, diag and script development, test equipment specification, design and qualification)
  • Experience with an advanced technology in past 2-3 years
  • Automation Engineering (including fixed automation and robotics design and implementation)
  • Material Science (including materials selection and processing, plastics, films, coatings, adhesives, optics, magnetics, RF, EMI, surface science, microfabrication, nanotechnologies)
  • Advanced degree in a related engineering or science field
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of data analysis and statistics including Minitab
  • Experience managing technical and cross functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to start projects and drive them to completion with tangible results
